What job descriptions really mean
“Competitive Salary” “Join our fast-paced company” “Casual work atmosphere” “Some overtime required” “Duties will vary” “Must have an eye for detail” “Career-minded” “Apply in person” “Seeking candidates with a wide variety of experience” “Problem-solving skills a must” “Requires team leadership skills” “Good communication skills”
We remain competitive by paying you less than our competition.
We have no time to train you.
We don’t pay enough to expect that you will dress up; a couple of the real daring guys wear earrings.
Some every night and some every weekend.
Anyone in the office can boss you around.
We have no quality assurance.
Female applicants must be childless (and remain that way).
If you’re old, fat or ugly you’ll be told that the position has been filled.
You’ll need it to replace the three people who just quit.
You’re walking into perpetual chaos.
You’ll have the responsibilities of a manager, without the pay or respect.
Management communicates, you listen, figure out what they want and do it.

wow, great post

These are great—-and so true! Especially the “competitive salary” description.
